ADDIS ABABA – Ministry of Health has built a makeshift hospital inside Addis Ababa Millennium Hall to help Ethiopia deal with extreme eventualities of the deadly coronavirus.
The treatment center, located near Bole International Airport, is designed to accommodate 1000 patients, according to the Ministry of Health.
Currently, Ethiopia has 108 confirmed cases and reported three deaths due to COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by coronavirus.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, who visited the COVID-19 makeshift health center, said the center is part of country’s preparation “for extreme eventualities”.
Abiy also appreciated the preparation progress so far and gave direction for more centers to be set up using similar standards. “I am pleased with how quickly the site was transformed into a hospital setup,” he said.
“The preparedness for any extreme eventualities in similar spaces will continue,” the PM added.
The Ministry of health said about 360 beds are already ready to treat patients of COVID-19.
