Landslide Kills Six People in Southern Ethiopia

ADDIS ABEBA – At least six people have died in a landslide caused by heavy rain in Gamo Zone of Ethiopia’s southern region.

The accident occurred on Saturday night killing a majority of one family and another individual in Gamo Zone of SNNP Regional State, reported its communication bureau.

Images on social media showed trees, false banana, mud, and other debris in the village.

Another landslide accident killed two more people in Gamo Zone earlier last week, bringing the total of deaths in one week to eight.

The landslides were reportedly caused by heavy rains.

Authorities in the region have warned residents in Gamo of further accidents, and expressed their sorrow “over the loss of lives”, according to a statement issued on Sunday.
