ADDIS ABEBA – Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX) said it has traded 51,000 tons of commodities worth over 2.92 billion Birr on its floor in the month of July 2019.
In a statement sent to The Daily Monitor, the exchange said Coffee continues to take the lion’s share of the commodities exchanged for the month.
July’s trade at the Exchange, which had been conducted for 23 days, saw over 32,291 tons of coffee transacted.
Coffee contributed 63% in trade volume and 81% in trade value, according to ECX.
The trade performance of coffee has been increased by 23% and 30% in trade volume and value compared with the trade performance of the previous month, it said.
The trade volume and value of sesame has also increased by 57.45% and 69.66% respectively when compared with the same month of the previous year.
Over 1,765 tons of white Pea bean, 5,817 tons of sesame, 11,273 tons of Soya Bean as well as 28 tons of Green Mung Beans have also been transacted during the month.
