House Endorses Appointment of Three Ministers

ADDIS ABABA – The lower house of the Ethiopian parliament has approved today the resolution to appoint new Agriculture, Mines, and Transport ministers.

Last Friday, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed named Alemu Simie as Minister of Transport & Logistics; Habtamu Tegegn as Minister of Mines; and Girma Amentie as Minister of Agriculture.

The resolution to appoint the ministers was tabled during the House of People’s Representatives’ ninth regular session of their second year.

The government’s whip, Tesfaye Beljige presented the background and work experience of the three ministerial nominees to the House.

After reviewing the nominees, members of the house eventually approved their appointment by majority vote with ten against and two abstentions.

The newly appointed ministers took an oath of office in front of the parliament.

They will replace the outgoing members of PM Abiy’s cabinet Minister of Mines Takele Uma; Minister of Transport and Logistics Dagmawit Moges; and Minister of Agriculture Oumer Hussien.
