ADDIS ABABA – African Union Commission Chairperson, Moussa Faki Mahamat, has condemned the deadly attacks in Zamfara State of Nigeria.

An estimated 200 people were killed and 10,000 displaced in attacks by armed bandits, following military air raids on their hideouts last week, according to media reports.

In a statement today, AUC chairperson said he “strongly condemns the killing of scores of innocent people and injuries of several others in recent attacks” in the west African nation.

Mahamat commended the resolute determination and rapid response of the Government of Nigeria through the deployment of strategic military assets that destroyed the hideouts of the bandits.

He also urged citizens to support the government’s efforts in the prevention of future attacks.

The Chairperson expressed “the unequivocal solidarity and continuous commitment of the AU to support the Government of Nigeria in her efforts to guarantee the safety of lives and property, and to eliminate all forms of banditry and terrorism in the country”.
