Safaricom Ethiopia Receives Locally Made Telecom Towers

Safaricom Ethiopia received first batch locally made telecom towers as the company turns to local manufacturer for network expansion.

Woda Metal plc, headquartered in Tefki town, handed over 13 telecom towers to Safaricom Ethiopia on Thursday.

This is the first batch of the total 68 network towers ordered by the telecom firm.

Safaricom Ethiopia CEO Wim Vanhelleputte said: “This is a historic moment for Safaricom in Ethiopia as we have started the localization of the manufacturing of our infrastructure.”

The CEO expects the partnership with Woda to boost the telecom operator’s ongoing network expansion bid.

“The quality of their towers is good; their galvanization plant is the biggest in East Africa and their cost-effectiveness will enable us to expand our network more efficiently and effectively,” he noted.

Woda Metal plc is the first local manufacturer of such towers in Ethiopia.

Its CEO Steven Cui said “We are proud to be the first local company to supply telecom towers to Safaricom Ethiopia.”

“Our growth depends on your confidence in us; therefore, we would like to thank you for engaging with us,” the CEO said at the handover ceremony.
