Zemen Bank Picks Design for Second Skyscraper

ADDIS ABABA – Zemen Bank has announced the winner of an architectural design competition for its second skyscraper construction project in the capital.

Last May, Zemen inaugurated a 36-story headquarters building in the financial district of Addis Ababa. The construction took 1.5 Billion Birr.

The architectural design competition was held with a plan to build a second high-rise building next to the bank’s headquarters.

The winning design by Alebel Desta Consulting Architects & Engineers was announced in an event held at Hilton Addis on Saturday.

The architect firm received a special prize and certificate of recognition from Zemen’s Board of Directors chair Ermias Eshetu.

Its executives described the winning architectural design as “a symbol of modern design and innovation”.

“This magnificent building… will be laid on over 2000 square meters of land that the bank acquired from the City Administration,” Zemen disclosed.

Zemen which started its operation in October 2008 as a tech-centered bank – has more than 110 branches nationwide. The bank, with a subscribed capital of 14 billion Birr, has passed the central bank’s paid-up capital requirement of 5 billion Birr two years ahead of schedule.
