Huawei Launches its Annual ICT Competition in Ethiopia 

ADDIS ABABA – Huawei Technologies launched the 2023/24 edition of its ICT Competition in Ethiopia on Monday, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.

University students compete in the annual event that aims to drive the development of high-quality ICT talent.

Registration for the upcoming 8th Huawei ICT Competition will open in the first few days of September coinciding with the new Ethiopian academic year begins.

The launch of the competition was announced during a ceremony organized to award the winners of the 7th Huawei ICT Competition 2023.

More than 1500 students took part in the preliminary exam and 64 students progressed to the national competition. Eighteen students won the national ICT contest and went on to represent Ethiopia in the Huawei ICT competition in Africa.

On Monday, Huawei Technologies awarded the 18 students who won the nationals in a bid to motivate others today.

Nine of them eventually won the third prize in the 7th Huawei ICT Competition Global Final, which took place in Shenzhen, China, from May 24 to May 28, 2023.

The third Prize winners in the global received tablets and the rest of the regional competition winners also received the Huawei armband from Dr. Solomon Abraha, CEO of governance and infrastructure at the MoE.

During the award ceremony, Dr. Solomon appreciated Huawei for giving the students the chance to improve their skills and get international exposure through its annual competitions.

He also encouraged university students with an interest in ICT to exploit this chance, saying, “It may be an excellent opportunity to hone your talents, obtain significant experience, and earn worldwide visibility”.

participants will have the opportunity to learn about new technologies and concepts in the ICT competitions that cover a wide range of ICT topics, says Huawei Ethiopia’s PR director Liming Ye.

Students will get hands-on experience with these technologies, which will help them develop their practical skills, Liming said.
