Ethiopian Airlines Recognizes Travel Agencies

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopian Airlines Group has recognized top travel agencies in six categories in an event held at Skylight Hotel on Sunday.

The top three travel agencies in eight different categories were awarded based on their Jan-Dec 2022 performance.

The categories are Ethiopian Overall Top Performer, Ethiopian Top Market Share Performer, Newly Emerging Travel Agencies, Industry Pioneers, Ethiopian top Tour package seller, Ethiopian best booking quality Performer, Ethiopian Top Corporate seller, and Ethiopian best online check-in Contributor.

Ethiopian Airlines Group Chief Executive Officer Mesfin Tasew gave credit for travel agencies’ role in easing travel experiences for the airline’s customers.

“Ethiopian Airlines attaches great importance to travel agencies and the significant role they play in the development of travel, tourism and socio-economic activities by easing travel arrangements,” the CEO said.

The CEO extended his “gratitude and appreciation” to the travel agency community “for the remarkable contribution they make to the growth of travel and tourism in Ethiopia.”

“Ever since launching its operations, Ethiopian has been working closely with travel agencies,” he said. “As a veteran commercial airline with successful services of more than seven decades, Ethiopian has built deep-rooted, historical business partnerships that it will continue to nurture.”

The airlines noted that there are “a number of fertile grounds” for the travel agencies to widen their horizon and exploit so that they will be competitive in the international arena.

Working with Africa’s biggest airline, proximity to Africa’s major hub-Bole International Airport with an annual 20 million total passenger carrying capacity, and availability of a skilled workforce naked by the Ethiopian Aviation University, are some of the enticing opportunities available for the travel agencies to take advantage of, per the Airlines.

The national flag bearer currently operates 144 aircraft to more than 150 domestic and international passenger and cargo destinations across five continents.

The airlines concluded the 2022/23 Ethiopian fiscal year on a strong note. The airline saw its annual revenue grow by 20% to $6.1 billion while transporting 13.7 million passengers – a 55% year-on-year growth.
