Captain Shimelis scored a brace as the Walias won their first match on the US tour on Wednesday night.

US Tour: Captain Shemeles Nets Twice as Ethiopia Beat Guyana

The Ethiopian national football team beat Guyana in their first-ever match on US soil on Wednesday night.

The interim head coach Daniel Gebremariam took his twenty-two-man squad on the US tour with their schedule involving two friendlies.

On Wednesday night, Ethiopian fans in Virginia saw the Walias play their first match against the Guyana National team at Sagra Field Stadium.

The friendly was historic not only for Ethiopia but also for the South American team known as the Golden Jaguarswhio played an African team for the first time since the federation was founded 121 years ago.

And it was the Walias that came out on top.

Captain Shemeles Bekele scored on either side of half-time.

He put his team ahead with an eleventh-minute goal and added another in the 76th minute, helping the Walias secure a 2-0 victory over the Golden Jaguars.

The Ethiopian side will return to action with another friendly on Saturday. The Walias will play against the Atlanta Rovers FC, a United Soccer League team, at the Southern Crescent Stadium.
