Ethiopian National Football Team Gets Interim Coach
ADDIS ABABA – Instructor Daniel Gebregziabher has been appointed as interim coach of the national football team.
The Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) says its executive committee made the decision on Monday.
Daniel, who currently works as technical director, will be in charge of coaching the Walias’ next games.
The EFF has also picked Bahir Dar City trainer Degarege Yigzaw as deputy interim coach, based on the current performance of his team in the Ethiopian premier league.
The EFF’s request submitted for both the coach and his team Bahir Dar City, regarding Degarege assuming the additional responsibility has already received a positive response.
Both posts have been vacant after Wubetu Abate and his assistant Anwar Yassin consequently resigned in April. Their departure follows a back-to-back defeat to Guinea in the 2023 Afcon qualifiers late last month.
The results left Ethiopia at bottom of the Group G with three points and the fate of qualifications is out of their hands. The Walias will now play host against Malawi in Mozambique on June 20 before heading to Cairo for a final group G match.
Guinea and Egypt lead the group with nine points and both will qualify if they draw when they meet in June.
