ECC Partners Ethio Telecom to Collect Customs Duties & Taxes via Telebirr
The Ethiopian Customs Commission (ECC) teamed up with the state-owned Ethio Telecom to allow payments of customs duties and taxes via Telebirr SuperApp.
The Telebirr-based digital payment system comes live after the two institutions signed a strategic partnership deal on Thursday.
The system makes making tax and commission payments via Telebirr SuperApp or USSD (*127#), says Ethio Telecom.
The system also assists them to gain access to 19 interoperable banks to cash in to prepare and deliver Customer Payment Order (CPO) to the customs branches.
The partnership has also helped the Customs Commission to implement a digital payment system integration and digitize its working systems.
The system facilitates the collection of taxes and commission payments via Telebirr in real-time, and ensures efficient custom clearance procedures, according to the telco.
Ethio Telecom says Customers of the commission log in to the ECC’s trade portal www.customs.erca.gov.et/trade/ and fill in the required information to access the service and settle the payments via Telebirr or SMS (*127#) using the payment order number received from the commission.
The customers can generate receipts from Telebirr SuperApp immediately after completing payment,
Customs Commission is among more than 100 service-rendering public and private institutions that are integrated with Telebirr digital payment system.
Ethio Telecom recently revamped its Telebirr to Telebirr SuperApp to add more services to the financial Service digital platform. Telebirr, since its inception in 2021, has acquired 31.3 million subscribers.
