Floods kill 4 People in Addis Ababa
Four members of a family were killed after flooding struck the Lafto Sub City of Addis Ababa on Saturday.
The heavy rain on Saturday caused a river to overflow and swept away home in an area known as Mango Sefer of Woreda 12.
Three children aged 3, 13, and 15, along with their 46-year-old mother were inside the house taken away by the flood, prompting authorities to deploy a rescue team.
The team found the victims’ bodies after hours of effort, the city’s Fire and disaster risk management commission said on Sunday.
The commission officials appreciated the public’s help in the search operations of the victims.
Heavy rainfall was forecast over the course of the current Belg season.
Residents, particularly those living near river banks, should be vigilant to prevent further deadly incidents from happening, the commission cautioned the public.
