China Grants Duty-Free Access to Ethiopian Export Products

ADDIS ABABA – China has granted duty-free access to over 1,600 products from Ethiopia, the Ministry of Trade and Regional Integration announced today.

The ministry revealed a list of manufacturing products that were granted duty-free as well as quota-free access to the Chinese Market on Monday.

Accordingly, 1,644 export products will get unlimited duty-free access from a total of 6,422 items that are the subject to bilateral market.

The duty-free access was granted without any reciprocate obligation on Ethiopia, says the trade Ministry.

China has been Ethiopia’s largest trading partner and biggest source of investment for many consecutive years.

According to Xinhua, the bilateral trade volume reached $2.66 billion in 2001, of which, China imported commodities of nearly $370 million from Ethiopia, a year-on-year increase of 8.1%.
