Parker Clay Opens Leather Products Manufacturing Plant in Addis
ADDIS ABABA – Parker Clay Plc has inaugurated a million US dollar fully-finished leather products manufacturing plant in Addis Ababa Industrial Village.
The inauguration came two months after the company received 1,150 square meters of land in the Industry Village from the Industrial Parks Development Corporation (IPDC).
Industry Minister Melaku Alebel and other senior government officials attended the factory opening on Thursday.
The company initially came to Ethiopia to engage in charity work.
According to the Ministry of Industry, its investors then turned their attention to investing in leather production and creating job opportunities for the citizens, particularly women.
The company, which started with a small space and a limited number of employees, has now opened over a million USD expansion manufacturing plant.
officials say that its latest investment has already created employment opportunities for more than 180 young men and women.
Industry Minister Alebel said the company is currently playing an ambassadorial role for the Ethiopian investment sector, and leather products under Made in Ethiopia internationally.
Parker Clay Ethiopia plans to supply leather products worth 100 million US dollars to the market in the next ten years.
