Ethiopia Adds 49 New Covid Cases, Zero Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 49 additional Covid-19 infections and zero related fatalities in the last twenty-four hours, health officials said in a report on Friday evening.

The new cases have brought the nation’s confirmed tally to 492, 491 – of which 470,584 have already recovered from the disease caused by the Coronavirus. At least 144 Covid-19 patients have regained their health in the reported period.

The slight increase in recovery today has brought the active cases of Covid-19 in the country down to 14,306.

At least 21 of the Covid patients are severely sick and are receiving treatment in hospitals, the report states.

No Covid-related fatalities have been reported in the past 24 hours and the nation’s Covid death toll stays at 7,569.

The country is currently providing a covid vaccine to its citizens as part of a national response to the pandemic as health experts urge the public to be vigilant about the virus.

To date, Ethiopia has administered more than 52.56 million doses of the covid vaccine, resulting in 43.1 million of its population being fully vaccinated against the virus.

Health officials, who launched the national vaccine drive in March 2021, plan to reach 60% COVID-19 vaccination coverage by the end of 2023.
