ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has reported 1, 303 new coronavirus cases on Friday, pushing its national tally to more than 56, 500, according to its ministry of Health.
The country tested 23, 712 people for the virus, which causes a respiratory disease called COVID-19, in the last twenty-four hours to identify the latest infections.
Health officials also reported 24 people have died during the period, the highest daily figure over the past two weeks.
The official death toll has now reached 880, according to the Ministry’s daily report.
The country currently has over 35, 000 active cases. Of these, 315 patients are in severe conditions, says the report which indicates a jump in the number of seriously ill patients by 9.
Authorities also reported 329 patients of COVID-19 have recovered from the virus, taking the total figure to 20, 612.
The East African nation has tested 994, 303 people for coronavirus since the first case confirmed in mid March, and identified 56, 516 infections so far.
