1 killed, 2 Hurt after Building Collapse in Addis

ADDIS ABABA – One person was killed and two others injured in a partial warehouse collapse in Addis Ababa city, Police said.

The accident occurred around 03:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon in the Ammanuel Area of Addis Ketema Sub-City.

Com. Meaza Woldegebreal of Mesalemya Area Police said the warehouse partially collapsed after it was filled with rainwater.

The side of the building fell down on adjacent houses while the residents were inside.

With the support of the public, Police said they were able to rescue three people from the debris and transport them to a hospital.

One of the three passed away in the hospital from a serious injury sustained from the accident.

The other two, who are also seriously hurt, are still receiving treatments in the hospital.

The partially collapsed warehouse is still a concern for people residing in the nearby houses, according to police.

Police urged city authorities to step up their preemptive works in accident-prone areas during the rainy season to prevent similar fatal accidents from happening.
