Covid-19: Ethiopia Records 79 New Cases as Recoveries Rise

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia on Friday reported 79 more fresh Covid-19 infections as more than 500 patients of the actue respiratory disease recovered from the disease.

In its daily report today, the ministry of health said the latest positive cases identified from close to 2,900 people tested for coronavirus in the last twenty-four hours.

The nation’s confirmed infections total has now reached 492, 125.

At least 469,520 of these patients have already recovered, said the ministry, after adding 554 recoveries on Tuesday. Today’s recovery count is the highest the country has registered in a day since July 12.

The severe cases total has stabilized with the number of severely sick patients getting treatment in hospital stays at 31.

The death toll also stays at 15, 568 after the health officials recorded zero deaths for three consecutive days.

However, they are still urging the public to remain vigilant and get the covid vaccine shot to keep themselves and their loved ones safe.

About 23, 500 shots of the Covid-19 vaccine have been given to the public in the last 24 hours, today’s report shows.

To date, Ethiopia has administered more than 52.55 million doses of the covid vaccine. Over 43.1 million people have also been fully vaccinated against the coronavirus.

Health authorities, who started the ongoing vaccine drive last year in March, plan to reach 60% national COVID-19 vaccination coverage % by the end of next year.
