Ethiopia Records 161 Covid Infections, Zero Fatalities over the Weekend

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 161 more Covid-19 cases and zero related deaths in the last forty-eight hours, according to the health officials’ update. 

The patients, diagnosed with the disease on Saturday and Sunday, have brought the nation’s confirmed tally to 491,086. 

Only 117 patients have also recovered from the disease in the same period, the ministry of health reports show. The recovery total now stands at 468,107. 

Zero fatality reported

Ethiopia’s confirmed active cases number has reached 15,416, up by 44 from Friday. 

According to the Ministry, one Covid-19 patient has been admitted to the hospital on Saturday, taking the severe cases number to 40.

It has also reported zero fatality related to the deadly respiratory disease caused by a coronavirus as the covid death toll stays at 7,561.

Health experts are still advising the public to be vigilant and follow the Covid protocols including wearing facemasks when in crowded places and getting the vaccine shot. 

In the last 48 hours, no one has received a covid vaccine as the data related to the vaccine in the update remained the same.

Ethiopia started offering the Covid vaccine to its civilians in March 2021. Since then, the country has administered over 52.28 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine. 

Close to 42.9 million Ethiopians have also been fully vaccinated against the Coronavirus, reports the Ministry that plans to reach 60% Covid-19 vaccination coverage by the end of 2023.
