Covid-19: Ethiopia Logs 4 Deaths amid Rise in Recovery Cases

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded four Coronavirus-related fatalities as its single-day recovery outstripped the number of new infections on Tuesday.

In its daily report, the ministry of health says 190 people have been diagnosed with Covid-19 in the last twenty-four hours, taking the confirmed total in the country to 489, 847.

Today’s recovery cases are among the highest in recent weeks with a total of 1,305 patients recuperated from the disease in the reported period.

This has pushed the nation’s recovery count to 466,108 while bringing the confirmed active cases tally down to 16,188.

However, health officials say four people have passed away due the acute respiratory disease in the last 24 hours, pushing the death toll to 7,548.

At least 48 severely sick Covid patients are getting treatment in various hospitals nationwide, the report claims.

Officials say most of the severe cases in Ethiopia are unvaccinated citizens as they urge the public to remain careful of Covid and get the vaccine shot from a nearby medical center.

Ethiopia has administered more than 52.2 million doses of the covid vaccine, so far. About 33,583 of these doses have been given to the public in the last 24 hours, the latest update indicates.

More than 20,000 people also received their second shots today, bringing the number of fully vaccinated Ethiopians to nearly 42.8 million.

Health officials started offering the Covid vaccine shots in Ethiopia in March of last year and plan to reach 60% Covid-19 vaccination coverage by the end of 2023.
