Ethiopia Records 775 New Covid Infections, Active Cases on the Rise

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia on Wednesday logged 775 new Covid-19 infections as confirmed active cases continue to raise, a ministry of health shows.

The new cases, identified from 5,108 people tested for Coronavirus on the day, took the confirmed total to 481, 225. At least 457,201 of them have already recuperated from the disease, said the ministry after adding only141 recoveries on Wednesday.

The increasing daily cases which outpaced the recovery is pushing the confirmed active cases.

The report latest showed that newly diagnosed patients have pushed the confirmed active cases in the country by 634 to 16,504.

About 36 of them are severely sick, said the report, after three more Covid-19 patients were admitted to hospitals on Wednesday.

On the same day, one patient also succumbed to Covid-19, bringing the death toll to 7, 518.

With the rise in new and severe cases, health officials are advising the public to vigilant about the acute respiratory disease caused by the Coronavirus.

They are also urging all 12 years and older to get the Covid-19 vaccine shots to keep themselves and their loved ones safe after they launched a third-round immunization campaign last Friday.

On Wednesday, the nation administered over 1.55 million doses of the Covid vaccine, pushing the total vaccine shots given so far to 44.7 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

The cumulative number of fully vaccinated Ethiopians has also reached 36.7 million. At least 1.3 million of them received their second vaccine shot on Wednesday, health officials reported.

The East African nation started offering the Covid vaccine to its citizens in March 2021.
