COVID: Ethiopia Logs 608 Cases, Severe Cases Increase

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 608 new Covid-19 cases on Thursday as the number of severely sick patients increases, according to a Ministry of Health report.

The nation conducted 5,626 coronavirus tests to confirm the latest positive cases in the past twenty four hours.

The new cases have brought the confirmed tally to 477, 006, the report says.

Close to 456, 500 of the patients have already recuperated from Covid-19, says the ministry after adding only 78 new recoveries today.

The report shows six new patients have also been admitted to hospitals today after they became seriously sick, bringing the serious cases total to 22.

These patients are among 12, 996 confirmed active cases in the country.

The ministry also reported zero Covid-19 related patients in the reported period as the death toll stays at 7, 516.

The vaccination pace remains at standstill with the latest report showing no new data regarding the vaccine offer on Thursday. Health officials recently announced their plan to roll out the third round nationwide vaccination campaign in the first half of June.

The previous two saw Ethiopia administered close to 29.45mln doses of the Covid-19 vaccine nationwide. Over 24.5 million Ethiopians are also fully vaccinated against the coronavirus since the first vaccine shot was given in March 2021.
