CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship: Uganda Narrowly Beat Ethiopia to Progress to Final

ADDIS ABABA – Uganda have narrowly beaten Ethiopia’s women football team in the CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship semi-final match today .

The hosts won 1-0 but the match held at the FUFA Technical center in Njeru, was a closely contested one.

Fazila Ikwaput scored the only goal of the match in the extra time for Uganda after the normal time ended goalless.

The hosts had a better start and indeed got the better chances in the game rattling the crossbar on four occasions.

However, Ethiopia too grew into the game and posed a lot of questions to Uganda’s backline who had goalkeeper Daisy Nakaziro to thank for a brilliant display.

With the game destined for kicks from the spot, Ikwaput made the difference, striking home to send the fans into wild celebrations.

The result has helped Ugandans to progress for their first-ever final at the CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship.

The Ugand and Burundi, who beat Tanzania 2-1 on the same day, will play in the final.

The two teams have already met in the group stage during which the hosts won 4-1.

Both Uganda and Burundi are also using the regional tournament to prepare before they play in the TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) to take place next month in Morocco.
