Ethiopia Records 637 Covid Cases, 1 Death

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 637 new infections of Covid-19 and one related fatality on Wednesday, a ministry of health report says.

The nation tested close to 4,700 people in the last twenty-four hours to identify the latest positive cases, which brought the confirmed total to 476, 398.

Only 40 Covid patients have also regained their health in the reported period, bringing the recovery tally to 456, 414.

The increase in the daily infection which outpaced the recovery rate has pushed the number of confirmed active cases to 12, 466.

Two patients have also been admitted to hospitals today after they became seriously sick.

Currently, there are 16 severely sick Covid patients in the country, the ministry of health report says.

The report also says one patient has died due to the acute respiratory disease – the first the country has recorded in the last four days. The Covid-19 death toll currently stands at 7516.

The vaccination pace remains at standstill with the latest report showing no new data regarding the vaccine offer in the past 24-hours.

Health officials recently announced their plan to roll out the third round nationwide vaccination campaign in the first half of June.

The previous two saw Ethiopia administered close to 29.45mln doses of the Covid-19 vaccine nationwide. Over 24.5 million Ethiopians are also fully vaccinated against the coronavirus since the first vaccine shot was given in March 2021.
