Ministry of Health Receives Ultrasound Tech Support from Siemens Healthineers

ADDIS ABABA – The German Development Cooperation and Siemens Healthineers partner up to support the Ethiopian healthcare system through ultrasound technology.

The partnership is designed to provide healthcare providers with medtech equipment and to train medical and technical staff.

The German Embassy in Addis Ababa handed over ten NX2 ultrasound devices to the Ministry of Health of Ethiopia.

Through this partnership approach, the embassy said Ethiopian healthcare providers receive urgently needed, versatile health technology and training for medical and technical staff to fully utilise the clinical capabilities of the ultrasound devices.

“The donation of ultrasound equipment from Siemens Healthineers makes an important contribution to the diagnosis and treatment of Covid-19 patients,” said Stephan Auer, German Ambassador to Ethiopia.

“It is just one component of the multi-layered support we offer to our Ethiopian friends and partners.”

Within Africa, Ethiopia is one country that has made significant advances in improving healthcare for its population in the past years, especially after the challenging situation posed by the pandemic.

“As COVID 19 continuous to be a global challenge, the ultrasounds will benefit vulnerable groups, such as women, children and people living with disability, and those all those who cannot afford treatment of their infection with such state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment,” said State Minister of Health Sahrella Abdulahi.

The state Minister expressed her appreciation for the ultrasound machines support through the support of the German Government today.

The donation includes online training packages that have been curated in collaboration with the Ministry of Health to tailor it precisely to the needs of the Hospitals.

“International clinical experts will be training the clinical staff on the use of ultrasound Technology for communicable and non-communicable diseases, as well as for maternal health,” said Ole Per Maloy, Managing Director of Siemens Healthineers, Middle East and Southern and Eastern Africa

By the end of 2022, GIZ and Siemens Healthineers, in close alliance with the Ministry of Health, will install the ultrasound devices in hospitals in Addis Ababa and other regions and execute the training measures for the medical and the technical staff.
