1,068 Ethiopians Repatriated From Saudi Arabia today

ADDIS ABABA – More than 1,000 Ethiopian migrants have arrived in Addis Ababa as authorities continue repatriating citizens from Saudi Arabia on Monday.

Three flights carrying a total of 1, 068 Ethiopians have landed at Addis Ababa bole international today, according to the Ministry of Women and Social Affairs.

Unlike the recent returnees, the ministry said all of today’s repatriates are male including a child and were taken to a shelter center where they will be getting care and support”.

Ethiopia started the ongoing repatriation push on March 30, 2022 with a target to repatriate at least 102,000 of its citizens who are held in Saud’s detention centers and prisons. About 26, 860 of them have already been repatriated.

Authorities say the effort will continue for the next six months and involves three flights a day for three days every week.

The International Organization for Migration is providing support to the government in the repatriation effort which includes receiving, rehabilitating and sending returnees to their respective localities in dignity.
