1, 005 Ethiopians Return home from Saudi Arabia

ADDIS ABABA – More than 1,000 Ethiopian nationals have been repatriated from Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

A total of three flights have arrived at Addis Ababa today, bringing a total of 1, 005 Ethiopians back to their country from Saudi Arabia’s Riyadh city, says the ministry.

More than 360 of the repatriates are women and children. Officials said they were taken to a sheleter center established to provide various support and care to the returnees.

The government launched the repatriation effort to bring Ethiopians living in dire situations in the gulf nation on March 30, 2022 with a plan to bring back 102, 000 citizens within months.

To date, close to 21, 000 citizens have come back home.
