Two People Struck Dead by Lightning in Wolaita

ADDIS ABABA – Two people were killed by a lightning strike in Hobicha district of Wolaita zone of southern Ethiopian region.

The tragedy occurred during a heavy rainfall on Wednesday afternoon, the District Police said.



The deceased were identified as 35-year-old and 30-year-old men.

Three others also sustained severe and minor injuries, said Deputy Inspector Ezkihel Oida, head of the Hobicha district police, speaking to a local media Thursday.

The lightning also struck down some houses and private properties in the area. Police urged residents in the area to take precautionary measures from similar natural incidents as the rainy season is approaching.
