ADDIS ABABA – The Ethiopian national team has received a warm welcome upon arrival in Addis Ababa after a table topping results in the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade.
Athletes from 59 countries competed in Over the three days of thrilling action in Serbia’s capital that ended on Sunday.
It was Team Ethiopia that topped the medal table, finishing the Championships with four gold, three silver and two bronze.
The athletes arrived at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, where they received a heroic welcome, on Wednesday morning.
The Team was welcomed by members of the athletics community and government officials including Kejela Merdassa, Minister for Culture and Sports, and Derartu Tulu, President of Ethiopian Athletics Federation.
The Federal Marsh Band and cultural dance team of the national team were also a part of the welcoming event ahead of their tour in streets of the capital in an open bus.
On the day, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Demeke Mekonnen has congratulated all Ethiopians, Ethiopian athletes and the athletics community for the stunning results achieved in the Championships.
”We are proud of our athletes and their spectacular success that boosts our image globally,” he said.
