Ethiopia Registers 5 More Covid Deaths, 48 New Cases

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has reported five Covid-19 related fatalities on Wednesday, the highest daily death total recorded in the past seven days.

The nation confirmed its first Covid-19 disease related death on April 5, 202O.

The latest figure has taken the total number of people who lost their lives to the virus to 7,482, reveals a ministry of health report.



The country has also reported more new cases than recoveries in the past twenty-four hours.

About 48 more Covid-19 infections and 23 recoveries have been recorded in the reported period, taking the confirmed cases total 469, 95 and recovery count to 420, 460, respectively.

There are now 41, 151 confirmed active cases in the nation. Of which, 59 are severely sick patients, the report indicates.

Health officials are urging the public to remain vigilant and follow protocols including wearing face masks as they push ahead with their nationwide vaccine drives.



Within the 24-hours period, more than 437, 200 doses of Covid vaccine shots have been given to the public, the ministry reports.

To date, Ethiopia has administered nearly 27.7 million doses of the Covid vaccine to the public.

About 23 million Ethiopians have also been fully immunized against the virus.

The Ministry started giving the vaccine in Ethiopia on March 13, 2021 – a week after it received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility.
