Ethiopia Reports Zero Covid Deaths, 35 New Cases
ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia on Thursday registered zero daily coronavirus disease (COVID-19) related deaths for the first time in the month of March, according to a ministry of health report.
There had not been a day without confirmed Covid-19 fatality since November 20, 2022.
About 7, 466 people passed away due to the virus since Health officials confirmed Ethiopia’s first COVID-19 related death on April 5, 2020.
On the same day, the country recorded 35 fresh cases and 105 recoveries, bringing the confirmed infection tally close to 469, 000 and the recovery total to 420, 295, the ministry’s reported.
Currently, there are 41, 154 confirmed active cases nationwide. At least 70 of them are seriously sick, the report said.
– Vaccine Drive –
Ethiopia, which started offering the vaccine to the public in March 2021, stepped up its vaccine drive with a second phase campaign launched in mid February.
More than 167, 500 doses of Covid-19 vaccine were administered nationwide on Saturday, the report indicated.
The figure has taken the total number of doses given in the country so far to more than 26 million.
The East African nation has fully immunized over 21.37 million people against the virus.
