Ethiopia Reports 115 New Covid Cases, Vaccine Rate Climbs

ADDIS ABABA – The Ministry of Health on Thursday reported 115 fresh cases of Covid-19 as the number of first vaccine doses given in Ethiopia continued to climb.

In its report, the ministry said the latest cases confirmed from over 5,400 tests conducted within twenty-four hours, took the national Covid total to 467,975.

A patient also passed away due to Covid-related complications on the day, bringing the death toll 7, 430.

The nation currently has 51, 137 active cases. Of these, 141 patients are severely sick and are getting medical attention, the ministry reported.

It also said 98 Covid patients also recuperated from the acute respiratory illness, pushing the recovery count to 409, 406.

Health officials are still urging the public to observe the Covid protocol put in place, including wearing face masks and getting vaccinated, to protect themselves and their families from the disease.

On Thursday, the number of people who received their first shots grew by more than 1.1.6 million as compared to the previous day, the daily report noted.

To date, Ethiopia has administered more than 13.1 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine while fully vaccinating nearly 11 million of its citizens.
