Coronavirus: Ethiopia Records Nearly 5000 Recoveries, 12 Deaths

ADDIS ABABA – The Ministry of Health says 4,955 Covid patients have recuperated from the disease on Wednesday – the highest daily recovery number recorded in Ethiopia in recent months.

The figure has taken the recovery tally in the country to 394, 030, the daily Covid update shows.
It also significantly outnumbered the fresh Covid infections tally registered in the same period.

According to the ministry, the country has recorded 418 new Covid cases after testing 7, 048 people in the last twenty-four hours.

The rise in the daily recoveries decreases the confirmed active cases number by 4,549 from the previous day to 62, 141.

A further 12 covid-related deaths have been recorded in the past 24-hours, taking the national death toll 7,292, according to the ministry. At least 330 severely sick are still in the ICU.

Ethiopia, which confirmed its first case in March 2020, has so far identified a total of 463,465 cases after conducting as many as 4.31 million tests. The tally puts the country among the top five countries with the highest caseloads in Africa.

Health officials are still strongly urging the public to observe the Covid protocols put in place including wearing face masks.

They are also conducting a nationwide vaccination drive which saw close to 11 million doses administered. At least 9.37 Ethiopians have been fully vaccinated, according to the ministry.
