Ethiopia Reports 481 More Covid Infections

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 481 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, taking the nationwide tally to more than 461, 700, a ministry of health report says.

The ministry also reported ten more Covid-related deaths and 2,746 recoveries, bringing their totals to 7,236 and 385,326, respectively.

On the same day, the active cases count has dropped below 70,000 for the first time in weeks as the daily recovery continues to outnumber new infections.

The Ministry reported the national active cases currently stands at 69,168. At least 373 of them are severely sick and are getting medical treatments.

Vaccine drive stagnates

Ethiopia confirmed ints first Coronavirus infection on March 2020. Since then, it has reported 461, 733 cases – the highest registered in the East Africa region – after conducting nearly 4.3 million tests.

As part of its efforts to control the spread of the pandemic, its health officials have been conducting a national vaccination campaign since March 2021.

In the past five days, however, the vaccine drive has stagnated with its health ministry continues to report with no additional data regarding the vaccines offered to the public.

Ethiopia has administered a total of 10, 968, 479 doses of COVID-19 vaccine and fully vaccinated 9.37 million people since the beginning of the vaccine drive.
