Ethiopia Registers 881 New Covid Cases, 15 Fatalities

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has reported 881 fresh cases of Covid-19 and 15 related fatalities on Monday, a ministry of health report reveals.

The fresh positive cases, identified from over 6000 tests conducted in the last twenty-four hours, puts the national confirmed cases tally at 458, 203.

Fifteen more Coronavirus-induced deaths have also been reported in the same period, taking the national death toll to 7,162, say.

Today’s report also shows a slight decrease in the number of severe cases.

There are now 420 seriously sick patients receiving medical treatments in hospitals, with their number dropping by 15 as compared to the previous day.

The patients are among 74, 685 confirmed active cases in the country, according to the covid report.

As many as 1,731 patients have also recuperated from the acute respiratory disease caused by Coronavirus in the same period, pushing the recovery tally to 375,353.

Following a day-long pause, health authorities resumed their vaccine drive on Monday albeit at a smaller rate.

Only 459 doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been offered to the public in the past 24-hours, the report reveals.

The ongoing vaccination campaign started on March 13, 2021 – a week after the country received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility.

Since then, the country has administered more than 10.96 million doses while fully vaccinating nearly 9.37 million people.
