Covid: Ethiopia Records 8 Deaths as Recoveries Exceed New Cases

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 1,428 more Coronavirus cases and eight related fatalities on Friday, reports its Ministry of Health.

The fresh positive infections of Covid-19 were confirmed from 8,240 tests conducted in the past twenty-four hours.

The report also claims as many as 1,631 patients have recuperated from the acute respiratory disease in the same period as the daily recoveries exceeded new cases for the first time in weeks.

Ethiopia’s recovery count currently stands at 370, 466, according to the report.

Additional eight covid-induced deaths have been registered in the reported period, pushing the national death toll to 7,117.

There are now 434 severely sick Covid-19 patients receiving medical treatments in hospitals across the nation.

These patients are among 76, 971 confirmed active cases in the East African nation, according to the health ministry’s report.

Ethiopia confirmed its first Coronavirus infection on March 13, 2020. Since then, it has tested over 4.24 million people to confirm a total of 454, 556 cases.

Its health officials are now conducting a nationwide Covid-1 vaccine drive as part of their effort to contain the spread of the pandemic in the country.

In the past 24-hours, only 1,568 doses of Covid vaccine have been given to the public, the report indicates.

The figure has taken the total doses administered in Ethiopia to over 10.96 million and the number of fully vaccinated Ethiopians to 9, 364, 787.

The ongoing vaccination campaign started last year, March 13 – a week after the country received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility.
