Ethiopia Confirms 2,131 New Coronavirus Cases, 19 Fatalities

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has recorded 2,131 more Covid-19 cases and 19-related deaths on Thursday, reveals a ministry of health report.

The country conducted 10,073 tests in the past twenty-four hours to confirm the positive cases.

A further 19 Coronavirus-related fatalities and 835 recoveries have been recorded in the reported period, taking the death toll and recoveries total to 7,109 and 368,835, respectively.

There are now 433 severely sick Covid-19 patients getting medical treatments in the country, says the report that puts the confirmed active cases count at 77,182.

To date, Ethiopia has registered 453,128 Coronavirus cases, the highest figure reported among the East Africa regions, after testing over 4.23 million people.

It’s health ministry is currently conducting a national vaccination campaign albeit at a smaller rate in recent days.

In the 24-hours period, only 338 doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been offered to the public, the report shows.

The Ministry started giving the vaccine in Ethiopia on March 13, 2021 – a week after it received 2.2 million AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX Facility.

Since then, it has administered nearly 10.9 million doses nationwide while fully vaccinating over 9.36 million people.
