Covid-19: Ethiopia Records 1,152 New Cases, 8 Fatalities

ADDIS ABABA — Ethiopia has registered 1,152 more Covid-19 cases on Saturday, bringing the confirmed tally to 443,339, reveals a ministry of health report.

The country tested 5, 256 people in the last twenty-four hours to confirm the new positive cases.

Eight additional Covid-related fatalities and 848 recoveries have also recorded in the reported period, bringing the death toll and recoveries tally to 7,020 and 361,567, respectively.

There are now 435 severely sick patients of the acute respiratory disease. They are among 74,750 active cases in the East African nation, according to the report.

Ethiopia, which confirmed its first case in March, 2020, has reported the highest Covid-19 caseload in the East Africa region after conducting nearly 4.2 million tests.

Health officials are strongly urging the public to observe the Covid protocols put in place including wearing face masks and getting the Covid-19 vaccine as the number of daily new cases starts to pick up in the recent weeks.

However, not a single dose of Covid vaccine has been administered in the past twenty-four hours as per today’s report.

The country started offering the Covid vaccine on March 13, 2021. It has so far provided nearly 11 million doses to the public while fully immunizing over 9.36 million people.
