Ethiopia Records 5,185 More Covid Infections, Active Cases Top 45,000
ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has added 5,185 more Covid-19 infections on Tuesday, making active cases total to exceed 45,000.
In its daily Covid-19 report, the ministry of health said the country conducted 13, 280 tests in the past twenty-four hours to confirm the latest positive cases.
A further 7 Coronavirus-induced fatalities and 386 recoveries were also recorded in the same period, bringing the death toll to 6, 911 and recoveries count to 353, 787.
The country currently has 232 severely sick Covid-19 patients, whose number grew by 22 as compared to the previous day.
They among the 45, 045 confirmed active cases, which has also spiked by nearly 5,000 in the last 24-hours as daily infections continue to outnumber recoveries.
To date, Ethiopia has confirmed 400, 560 cases after testing more than 5 million people.
Vaccine Drive
Health officials are blaming the recent jump in the daily infections to the failure to observe the public health advice such as wearing face masks and social distancing put in place to tackle the pandemic.
They are also urging the public to get vaccinated as most health centers are now offering the Covid vaccine.
The East African nation has so far administered nearly 10.9 million doses of Covid vaccine nationwide.
More than 25, 200 of them were given in the last twenty-four hours, according to the ministry of health’s latest update.
Ethiopia started providing the vaccine to the public on March 13, 2021. Since then, over 9.34 million people have been fully vaccinated against the disease.
