Ethiopia’s Covid Vaccine Rate Continues to Climb

ADDIS ABABA – The number of first vaccine doses given at the national level has reached nearly 15 million as Ethiopia recorded 259 new Novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases on Friday.

Ethiopia, which started offering the Covid vaccine to its citizens in March, 2021, launched its second round vaccine drive this week, targeting 12 year olds and beyond.

The national campaign has helped the country to significantly increase its immunization coverage.

On Friday alone, the number of people who received their first shots grew by nearly 1.32 million, indicates the ministry of health daily Covid report.

Ethiopia has administered over 14.44 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine so far. More than 12 million people have also been fully vaccinated.

More New Cases

In its report, the ministry said the country has confirmed 259 new cases after testing 5, 779 people in the past twenty-four hours.

A further five Covid-related fatalities have also been recorded in the same period, taking the death toll 7, 435.

The nation currently has 51, 274 active cases nationwide. Of these, 134 patients are severely sick and are getting medical attention, the report says.

Meanwhile, a total of 117 patients have recuperated from the acute respiratory illness, bringing the recovery tally to 409, 523

The East African nation confirmed its first Coronavirus case in March 2020. Since then, it has identified 468, 234 infections after conducting more than 4.45 million tests.
