Dr. Tadesse Appointed to Lead Secretariat Office of Taskforce Overseeing Govt’s Response to Rights Abuses
ADDIS ABABA – Dr. Tadesse Kassa has been appointed to head the Secretariat office of Inter-Ministerial taskforce that the government set up to oversee redress and accountability measures in response to human rights violations committed in the context of the conflict in northern Ethiopia.
The Inter-Ministerial taskforce appointed Dr. Tadesse to chair its secretariat office, said Ministry of Justice on Tuesday afternoon.
The taskforce began its work late last months by adopting comprehensive strategy and action plan.
The plan is expected to enable the taskforce to execute the recommendations put forward by a Joint UN Human Rights agencies team on human rights abuses in Tigray.
It will also be used to take accountability measures in all serious violations that have been committed in the context of the conflict, including those that have occurred in Afar and Amhara regional states after the unilateral ceasefire declared by the Federal Government in June 2021.
Dr. Tadesse is now in charge of the secretariat that will facilitate, monitor and coordinate its taskforce’s function and its four committees.
The four committees, established by the taskforce, are tasked to work with focus on Investigation and Prosecution, Refugees and IDP Affairs, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, and Resource Mobilization.
