Covid-19: Ethiopia Logs 117 New Infections over the Weekend
ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 117 more Covid-19 cases and zero related deaths in the last forty-eight hours, data from the Ministry of health shows.
The combined positive cases identified on Saturday and Sunday have pushed the nation’s confirmed tally to 491,759.
At least 468,868 of the Covid patients have already regained their health, the Ministry claims, after adding 59 recoveries in the reported period.
The East African nation currently has 15,003 confirmed active cases, up by 58 from Friday.
The number of severely sick patients, however, dropped to 37 after three patients were discharged from the hospital in the last forty-eight hours.
No one died due to the respiratory disease caused by a Coronavirus on Saturday and Sunday, the Ministry confirms. The death toll stays at 7,566.
Despite a drop both in severe cases of Covid-19 and related fatalities, health experts are advising Ethiopians to take the necessary precautions when in crowded places in addition to getting the vaccine shot.
Close to 26,000 shots of the Covid-19 vaccine have been given to the public in the last 48 hours, the latest update indicates.
This has taken the total doses administered in Ethiopia since March last year, to more than 52.5 million.
Over 43 million people have also been fully vaccinated against the virus, says the Ministry of Health which has a plan to increase the nation’s Covid-19 vaccination coverage to 60% by the end of 2023.
