Ethiopia Records 123 New Covid Infections as Severe Cases Tally Drops

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has registered 123 new novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) infections as the number of severe cases continues to drop.

The country tested a total of 4, 657 people in the past twenty-four hours to confirm the new positive cases, shoes the Ministry of health report.

Today’s number of fresh cases took the national confirmed case tally to 372, 711.

Three more Coronavirus-related fatalities and 94 recoveries were also registered in the reported period, bringing the death toll to 6, 819 and recoveries count to 350, 072.



Meanwhile, the number of severe cases has continued to decline with the tally dropping below 200 on Wednesday.

There are now 177 seriously ill Covid-19 patients in Ethiopia, claims today’s report which puts the national confirmed active cases count at 15, 818.

As part of its response to tackle the spread of the pandemic, the country is currently carrying out a nationwide vaccination campaign.



In the last twenty-four, more than 42, 500 doses of Covid vaccine have been given to the public across the nation, the report shows.

This has brought the total number doses administered since the start of the vaccine drive in March, this year, to a total of 10, 329, 552.

The ongoing campaign, which involves Johnson & Johnson, AstraZeneca, and Sinopharm vaccines, has fully immunized nearly 8.9 million people against the disease.
