Covid-19: Ethiopia Registers 143 New Cases, 3 Fatalities

ADDIS ABEBA – Ethiopia’s COVID-19 tally reaches 371, 946 after its Ministry of Health confirmed 143 fresh infections on Friday.

As many as 5, 300 tests have been conducted in the past twenty-four hours to identify the new positive cases , says the ministry in its daily Covid-19 report.

Three more people have also passed away due to the acute respiratory disease on the same day, taking the death toll tally to 6, 787.



Currently, the country has 15, 693 confirmed active cases. Of which, the ministry says, 217 are severely sick and are receiving medical treatment in ICU.

As many as 158 patients have also recuperated from Covid-19 in the twenty-four hour period. The national recovery tally now stands at 349, 464, according to the report.

Health officials have continued to push ahead with the national vaccination campaign on Friday.

A total of 123, 569 doses of Covid vaccines have been administered in the last twenty fours alone, data from the ministry reveals.



Today’s figure has brought the number of doses offered in the country so far close to 9.9 million.

The East African nation started offering the vaccine to its citizens on March 13, 2021. Since then, more than 8.44 million Ethiopians have been fully vaccinated against the Covid-19.

The ongoing vaccine drive, which involves a range of vaccines including J&J, AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Sinopharm, targets to immunize at least 22 million people by January.
