Health Ministry Reports 230 More Coronavirus Cases, 8 Fatalities

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has today registered 230 new novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) infections, bringing the confirmed case tally to 369, 667, reports the ministry of health on Thursday.

At least 6, 480 people have been tested to identify the latest positive cases in the last twenty-four hours, according to the Ministry’s Covid-19 update.

A further 8 Coronavirus-related deaths and 168 recoveries were also recorded in the same period, pushing the death toll to 6,655 and recoveries count to 346, 433.

The ministry’s report shows a drop in severe number by 25 as compared to the previous day.

There are now 264 seriously sick patients receiving treatment in medical centers, the report claims. They are among 16, 577 active cases in the East African nation.

Despite a drop in severe cases, health officials are still urging the public to observe Covid-19 protocols put in place to tackle the pandemic including wearing face masks as they push ahead with their vaccination campaign.

To date, Ethiopia has offered more than 5.51 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine to its citizens.

Of these, a little more than  19, 000 of the total doses offered nationwide were administered in the last twenty-four hours, according to data from the ministry.

The ministry began providing the vaccine on March 13, 2021. To date, it has fully inoculated more than 3.75 million people against the Covid-19.

The ongoing immunization campaign involves Johnson & Johnson, AstraZeneca, and Sinopharm, and targets to vaccinate about 22 million people by January.
