Addis Fundraised over 1.5bln Birr in Support of Displaced People, Fed Army

ADDIS ABABA – More than 1.5 billion birr has been raised on Monday night in support of people displaced by the conflict in northern Ethiopia and the federal Army.

Senior government officials including Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and representatives of the business community attended the fundraising event organised by Addis Ababa City Administration at Sheraton Hotle.

The city’s press secretary said various businesses and institutions in Addis ababa donated more than 1.54 billion birr on the nigh.

It, however, said the majority of the contribution was made by the Ethiopian Banking Association, whose members are local financial institutions.

The association chipped in about 1.23 billion birr, said the press secretary office. The remaining contributions came from businesses, non-government and government institutions, it added.
