Ethiopia Reports 404 New Coronavirus Infections

ADDIS ABABA — Ethiopia has recorded 404 new Covid-19 cases and nineteen related fatalities on Tuesday, according to its ministry of health.

In its daily report, the Ministry says the country identified the positive cases after testing more than 7, 200 people in the last twenty-four hours.

The disease has also claimed the lives of 19 patients, pushing the national death toll to 6, 486.

The country now has 18, 100 active cases. Of which, it says at least 423 of them are severely sick and are currently getting treatment in medical centers.

It also claims as many as 937 patients have recuperated from Covid-19 in the reported period, taking the recovery count to 341, 188.

Ethiopia confirmed its first Coronavirus infection on March 13, 2020. Since then, it has confirmed a total of 365, 776 cases after testing close to 3.71 million people.

Its health officials are currently conducting a nationwide vaccination campaign as part of its effort to contain the pandemic.

So far, the country has offered over 4.8 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines to the public. Out of these, at least 61, 000 doses were offered in the past 24-hours period, according to the ministry.

The East African nation started inoculating its citizens on March 13, 2021. To date, it has fully inoculated close to 3.58 million people against the virus.
