Ethiopia Reports 929 New Covid-19 Cases, 37 Fatalities
ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has reported 929 new novel Coronavirus (Covid-19) cases and 37 deaths on Wednesday.
In its Covid-19 update, the ministry of health says the country confirmed the latest positive infections after testing a total of 9, 382 people in the last twenty-four hours.
About 37 Covid-19 patients have also died in the reported period, pushint death toll to 6, 103.
The country now has 24, 802 active cases. At least 708 of them are critically ill, the Ministry says.
A total of 877 patients have also recuperated from Covid-19 in the past 25-hours, taking the recovery tally to 325, 865.
The East African nation confirmed its first coronavirus case in March 2020. Since then, it has confirmed 356, 772 cases after conducting over 3.57 million tests.
Health officials blamed the recent increase in infection and death cases on the prevalence of a delta variant.
They are urging the public to observe the health protocols put in place including wearing face masks, social distancing and proper hand washing while pushing ahead with its national immunization campaign.
On Wednesday, health facilities provided a total of 12, 386 doses of Covid-19 vaccine to the public, data from the Ministry of health shows.
Ethiopia started the ongoing vaccination drive on March 13, 2021. To date, it has fully inoculated more than 3 million people against the coronavirus.
