At Least 15 Civilians Killed by Gunmen in Western Oromia

ADDIS ABABA – Gunmen killed at least 15 civilians in Eastern Wolloga Zone of Oromia regional state, the Region’s Communication Bureau said on Thursday.

The deadly attack was carried out by the Oromo Liberation Army-Shene in Kiremu Woreda’s Haro town on two occasions on Monday and Tuesday, reports Fana Broadcasting.

The group, designated as terrorist by the parliament earlier this year, destroyed properties, displacing 967 families from their homes, said Hailu Adugna, head of the communication bureau, speaking to FBC.

On Wednesday, Opposition party Ezema urged to the government to take the necessary measure to stop the attacks which it said was ethnic-based.

The regional government has deployed additional security forces to stabilize the Woreda and the city, he said, adding efforts are underway to rehabilitate the displaced people.

The head of the bureau called on the public to support the security forces in their fight against “the evils, as these groups are pursuing a third-party agenda rather than ethnicity”.
